Frequently Asked Questions
Preparation
| Q |
Don't I have to size the walls? |
| A |
Sizing is a diluted paste that was once used to prepare the wall for hanging wallpaper. With the advent of acrylic wallcovering primers, sizing is no longer necessary, although professionals sometimes use it to improve tack.

| Q |
My walls have mildew on them. What should I do? |
| A |
If mildew is present, wash the walls with a detergent containing mildewcide or a mixture of 1/2 cup household bleach to one gallon of water. Wear goggles and protective gloves. Caution: Do not mix bleach or any other cleaning product with other cleaners or chemicals. Scrub with a medium brush until the mildew discoloration is gone. Thoroughly rinse the walls with clean water after washing to be sure the chemicals have been removed. Before reapplying wallpaper, apply a stain-killing primer followed by a wallcovering primer.

| Q |
Why do I have to patch the walls? Won't the wallpaper cover up cracks and holes? |
| A |
When the paste dries, it will pull the wallpaper tightly to the wall surface. Depending upon the thickness of the sheet and the nature of the pattern, imperfections in the wall beneath will tend to telegraph, or show through, the wallpaper. Taking the time to ensure a smooth surface will result in a nicer finished wall. If the wall cannot be made smooth, consider hanging lining paper.
